Lesbian Action Group
On 20 January 2025, the Australian courts refused, again, to allow lesbians to meet without requiring them to allow males who identify as "lesbians".
The application was brought by the Lesbian Action Group (LAG), against the Australian Human Rights Commission who had refused them an exemption under the Sex Discrimination Act. The AHRC maintains that males can be lesbian and have a right to attend lesbian events. See LAG website for the details
Giggle vs Tickle
In April 2024, Roxanne Tickle, a man, sued the founder of the women-only app Giggle for Girls, Sall Grover, for denying him access to the app. On 23 August 2024, Justice Bromwich of the Federal Court deemed sex to be “changeable” under Australian law and found Sall Grover guilty of discrimination for refusing to accept a male into the Giggle App. The Australian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) gave evidence in the case in support of Roxanne Tickle, arguing that Tickle should be treated as a woman in law. The court ordered Sal Grover to pay Tickle 10,000 Australian dollars in compensation. For more info see Sall Grover - Wikipedia
Breastfeeding
Jasmine Sussex is a local mum and a passionate breastfeeding advocate with 15 years experience. She is now facing a claim of vilification under the Queensland Anti-Discrimination Act, by a man claiming to be a “mother”. He claims her advocacy for mothers incites hatred, contempt and severe ridicule. Ms Sussex made online comments in response to media reports about a male with a woman gender identity and his self-described attempt to breastfeed” the child he had fathered, by chemically inducing lactation. Such chemical lactation not only lacks nutritional value for infants but the chemicals used can actually be dangerous to them. See more at HRLA.
Sport
The Flying Bats are a soccer team in the Sydney women’s league. In 2024, the team includes 5 males who identify as women. They won the league undefeated and scored 65 goals while only allowing four.
Schools
Prisons
In Australia, men who identify as women are being housed in women's prison. It is not known how many men, as the various state corrections departments do not release the data. In 2022 female inmates at one of Australia’s largest women’s correctional facility, the Dame Phyllis Frost Correctional Centre, had to petition to have a trans-identified male sex offender removed out of fears for their own safety.
Government
In 2024 Moira Deeming MLC was expelled from the Liberal Party, because she attended a women's rights rally that was critical of males in women's spaces. She was vilified as a “nazi sympathiser” for attending the rally. State and Federal governments , most of which are currently Labor, have used this narrative as justification for their consistent shutting down of any discussion about women’s sex-based rights. Ms Deeming subsequently won a defamation case against Victoria's Opposition Leader John Pesutto.
